How to grow Amazon sales in 2026: a practical playbook from 500+ seller accounts

By Vivek Shah, founder of Ecom Assistance · Amazon SPN partner · 500+ seller accounts since 2010 · Updated October 2026

When sales stall, most sellers reach for the ad budget. In the accounts we take over, the growth is usually hiding somewhere cheaper: products out of stock at the wrong time, listings that rank but do not convert, ad spend on searches that never sell, and a Buy Box lost to a price gap of a few rupees. Here is the order we work in, and why.

1. Find where sales are actually lost

Every sale passes through the same funnel: a shopper searches, sees you, clicks, adds to cart and buys. Brand Analytics' Search Query Performance report shows each step for your products. The step where you fall furthest below the category average is where growth is cheapest:

2. Stay in stock

A stock-out costs more than the sales you miss that week. Your organic rank drops while you are unavailable, ads stop, and competitors collect the reviews. Recovering rank after restocking can take weeks.

  • Forecast from your daily sales rate and supplier lead time, not from last month's total.
  • Add seasonal demand: festive season, wedding season, summer and winter categories can double demand in a few weeks.
  • Count inbound and FBA receiving time - stock "in transit" does not sell.
  • Watch stranded and suppressed inventory: units in Amazon's warehouse that cannot be sold.

3. Win the Buy Box

Most sales on a shared listing go to the offer holding the Buy Box. Amazon weighs price including delivery, fulfilment method (FBA and Easy Ship Prime usually help), delivery speed, stock and seller performance. If you are losing the Buy Box, check in this order: a price gap with the winning offer, a slower delivery promise, low stock, then account health metrics. On your own brand, remove unauthorised sellers through Brand Registry rather than racing them on price.

4. Fix conversion before buying traffic

Advertising multiplies whatever conversion rate you already have. A listing converting at 4% pays half as much per order as one at 8% for the same clicks. Before raising budgets:

  • Main image that wins the search-results comparison on a phone.
  • A title under 75 characters that says exactly what the product is.
  • Bullet 1 that gives the strongest reason to buy; the last bullet answers your top return reason.
  • A+ content with a comparison chart of your own range.
  • Every filter attribute filled, so you appear when shoppers narrow by size, colour or material.

Our listing optimisation guide covers each field.

5. Advertise for profit, not just sales

Know each product's break-even ACOS (profit before ads ÷ price), harvest the search terms that sell into exact-match campaigns, and remove the ones that do not every week. In accounts we take over, 15-30% of ad spend typically goes to searches that have never produced an order - recovering that is growth you do not pay extra for. Full method in our Amazon advertising guide.

6. Reviews and ratings

Ratings decide the click as much as price does. Use only Amazon-approved methods:

  • Request a Review on every eligible order (4-30 days after delivery) - Amazon's own button, which can be automated compliantly.
  • Vine for new products if you are brand-registered.
  • Fix the cause of 1-3 star reviews (packaging, sizing, missing parts) and update the listing to set the right expectation.

Never offer refunds, discounts or gifts for reviews, and never ask only happy buyers - both break Amazon's policy and can suspend the account.

7. Expand the catalogue the right way

  • Variations - add sizes, colours and pack counts as children of the same family, so they share reviews and rank together.
  • Bundles and multipacks raise order value and are harder for other sellers to undercut.
  • New marketplaces - Flipkart, Myntra and JioMart in India, or Amazon global stores (US, UK, UAE, Europe) once your India operation is stable.
  • Launch new products from search data - queries with real volume where few listings match well.

8. Sale events

Prime Day, the Great Indian Festival and regional festivals can bring a month's sales in a week. Prepare six to eight weeks ahead: stock in FBA before inbound cut-offs, deals and coupons submitted, ad budgets raised for the event days, and listings fixed beforehand - nobody edits a listing during the peak.

9. Measure profit, not revenue

Growth that does not reach your bank account is not growth. Track, monthly, per product: sales, Amazon fees, ad spend, returns and refunds, and your product cost. Products with strong sales and negative profit are common - especially with high return rates or heavy advertising. Fixing or dropping those often raises total profit more than any new launch.

How we do it. Our managed plans run all nine of these areas for you with monthly profit reporting, priced as 5% of monthly sales growth or a fixed base fee, whichever is higher - so we earn more only when you do. With the AI Ecommerce Manager, stock risks, Buy Box losses, listing gaps, ad waste and unclaimed money are checked every night and prepared as actions you approve.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to increase Amazon sales?

Usually fixing what is already losing sales: restocking products that run out, winning back the Buy Box, and cutting ad spend on non-converting searches so the budget goes to terms that sell. These work within weeks; new launches take months.

Why did my Amazon sales suddenly drop?

Check, in order: stock-outs or stranded inventory, Buy Box loss, a suppressed or edited listing, a new competitor or price change, an ad campaign that ran out of budget or was paused, and a recent wave of low ratings. The business reports and Account Health page usually show which.

Does FBA increase sales?

Often, because FBA offers get the Prime badge and faster delivery, which helps both the Buy Box and conversion. It also adds storage and fulfilment fees, so check the profit per unit before moving slow sellers.

How long does it take to grow a new Amazon brand?

Most products need three to six months of consistent stock, advertising and reviews to reach a stable rank. Established products with fixable problems often show results in four to eight weeks.

Do you work with sellers outside India?

Yes. We manage accounts for brands from India, the USA, UK, Canada, France, Belgium and Taiwan, on Amazon India and Amazon global marketplaces.
