How to appeal an Amazon seller account suspension (and get reinstated)

By Vivek Shah, founder of Ecom Assistance · Amazon SPN partner · reinstating accounts on Amazon India, USA, UK, Europe, UAE and other marketplaces since 2011 · Updated October 2026

A suspension email feels like the end of your business. It usually is not. Most suspensions are reversible when the appeal answers the exact question Amazon is asking. The process is the same on Amazon.in, Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, the EU stores and Amazon.ae - this is the method we use on real accounts - what to do in the first hour, what a Plan of Action must contain, and the mistakes that turn a 48-hour fix into a three-month fight.

1. First hour: read the notice properly

Open Seller Central → Account Health → Performance notifications. The notice names the policy Amazon believes you broke (for example "Section 3 of the Business Solutions Agreement", "inauthentic item complaints", "late shipment rate", "intellectual property complaint", "related account"). Everything in your appeal must answer that named reason, not the reason you think is fair.

Do not reply with the first message that comes to mind. Amazon counts every submission; a weak first appeal makes the second one harder because the reviewer already has a rejected file open.

Do this before writing a word: download the notice, download the last 90 days of orders, note the exact ASINs or order IDs named, and write down what actually happened in plain language. If you have a team, agree on one version of events.

2. Types of suspension and what each one needs

Reason in the noticeWhat Amazon wants to seeTypical evidence
Inauthentic / counterfeit complaintProof of genuine supply chainInvoices from the brand or authorised distributor covering the last 365 days, matching quantities, supplier contact details, brand authorisation letter if you have one
Intellectual property (trademark, copyright, patent)Retraction from the rights owner, or proof the complaint is wrongRights owner's retraction email, your licence/authorisation, listing images and text showing no infringement
Performance (late shipment, cancellation rate, ODR, valid tracking)Root cause and operational fixShipping logs, courier contracts, new SOP, staffing changes, buffer stock plan
Related account / multiple accountsExplanation of the link and proof the other account is clean or closedBusiness documents of both entities, bank statements, the chain of events
Product condition / used sold as newPacking and QC fixPhotos of packaging process, QC checklist, return handling changes
Verification / identity / documentsDocuments that match exactlyBusiness registration (GST/PAN in India, EIN in the US, Companies House/VAT in the UK and EU), ID, bank statement, utility bill - all with the same name and address as the account

Two of these are not really "appeals": IP complaints are usually resolved by getting the rights owner to withdraw, and verification holds are resolved by document consistency. Treat them as document tasks, not persuasion tasks.

3. Writing the Plan of Action

Amazon's reviewers read hundreds of appeals a day. They scan for three sections. Give them exactly those three, with headings, in this order:

Root cause

What went wrong, stated as a fact about your process - not about the customer, the courier or Amazon. "Our listing used a manufacturer image that showed a 500 ml bottle while we shipped 450 ml" is a root cause. "The customer misunderstood the product" is not.

Corrective actions

What you already did to fix the specific problem. Past tense, dated, concrete: "On 12 October we removed the three listings, refunded the four affected orders (IDs below) and replaced the main image with our own photograph showing the 450 ml bottle."

Preventive measures

What changes so it cannot recur: a new check in your listing SOP, a named person responsible, a weekly report, a supplier change. Bullet points. Each one should be something Amazon could, in theory, verify later.

Length and tone. One page. No apologies longer than one line, no story about how long you have been selling, no mention of how much money you are losing. Attach the evidence as PDFs with clear file names; do not paste invoices as text.

4. Submitting and following up

  • Submit through the appeal button in the notice (Account Health → Performance notifications → Appeal), not through a general support case - general cases go to a different team.
  • Invoices must be from your supplier to you, dated before the complaint, with supplier name, address and phone visible (plus GSTIN in India, VAT number in the UK and EU). Retail receipts and proforma invoices are rejected.
  • If there is no reply after 72 hours, do not resubmit the same text. A second submission should add new evidence or clarify a point, otherwise it resets the queue.
  • If the notice allows it, request a call via Account Health Support (the phone icon on the Account Health page). The call cannot approve you but can tell you which part of the appeal was insufficient.

5. Mistakes that get appeals rejected

  1. Answering a different question. A performance notice answered with invoices, or an authenticity notice answered with a shipping plan.
  2. Blaming the buyer or Amazon. Even when true, it signals the problem will recur.
  3. Generic language. "We will improve our quality" is not a preventive measure. "Every incoming lot is checked against the supplier invoice by our stock manager before listing" is.
  4. Missing order IDs. If the notice named orders, your corrective actions must name the same orders.
  5. Edited or mismatched documents. A cropped invoice or a registration name that differs from the account name ends the appeal.
  6. Submitting five times in a day. Each submission is reviewed in sequence; flooding the queue delays the decision.

6. After reinstatement

Reinstated accounts are watched. For 90 days keep ODR, late shipment and cancellation rates well inside the targets, respond to every policy warning within 24 hours, and keep the preventive measures you promised - Amazon can and does check. Set up alerts so a new performance notification reaches you the day it arrives, not when you next log in.

What we do differently. Ecom Assistance has written reinstatement appeals since 2011 for sellers on Amazon India, USA, UK, Europe, UAE and other marketplaces. We read the notice, pull the evidence from your account, write the Plan of Action, submit it, and handle the follow-up correspondence. Several sellers in our Google reviews were reinstated on the first POA. Once the account is back, our AI Ecommerce Manager watches account health every night so the next notice is caught early.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Amazon take to review an appeal?

Most first replies arrive within 48-72 hours. Complex cases (related accounts, IP disputes) can take two to four weeks with several rounds. A clear first appeal is the single biggest factor in speed.

Can I open a new account while suspended?

No. A new account linked to a suspended one is a "related account" violation and usually gets both accounts blocked permanently. Appeal the existing account.

Does Amazon release my funds when I am suspended?

Funds are typically held for up to 90 days after a suspension and released once the account is reinstated or after the hold period, provided there are no open claims. Reinstatement is the fastest route to your money.

Do I need an agency to write the Plan of Action?

No, but a reviewer who has seen hundreds of notices will spot the gap in your evidence before Amazon does. If the account is your main income, the cost of a professional appeal is small against weeks of lost sales.

Do you handle suspensions outside India?

Yes. We have reinstated accounts on Amazon.com (USA), Amazon.co.uk, the European stores, Amazon.ae and other marketplaces. The Plan of Action structure is the same; the documents Amazon accepts differ by country, and we tell you exactly which ones apply.

What does Ecom Assistance charge for reinstatement?

₹5,000 + GST (₹5,900) for a standard case, one time, after a free review of your notice. Complex or repeat cases are quoted as a fixed fee before any work starts. Details on our account reinstatement page.
